Posted on May 22, by bcbuck Dear Technoid, Please discuss the Browning Superposed salt problem and how to detect this defect. I have not been able to find any reference to it in the shotgun literature. A California contractor had a large inventory of good walnut taken from clearing power line right of ways. Demand for Browning guns was at an all time high and the usual kiln drying process for walnut was too slow to produce what was needed. Rapid kiln drying also produced cracks in the California walnut. Morton Salt had developed a salt solution drying process successfully used in the furniture industry with good results. This cured the walnut much faster than the kiln method.

The Hump is Back. You may notice a family resemblance, but lets get one thing straight, this ain’t your Grandpa’s Auto In fact, the iconic humpback-shaped receiver is the only thing this new Browning autoloader shares with its legendary namesake. The all new Browning A5 is built to be the most reliable, fastest cycling, best performing and softest shooting recoil-operated yes, recoil-operated autoloader on the planet. Browning is so confident in the A5, they are standing behind it with a , round or five year guarantee that the shotgun will work, come hell or high water.
Standing firmly behind this claim is the ultra-reliable, honed to perfection Kinematic Drive system.

The backbone may be cut with a single line or engraved with a wiggle tool pattern as in Western bright cut engraving. The backbone may also be implied, rather than cut, by the convergence of leaves along a spiral shape. The illustration shows a simulated sideplate on which are drawn the backbones of scrolls that will later be engraved. BACK-CUT — A return cut over the same line with a different graver or with the graver tilted in a different direction from the primary cut.
In flare cut or double bevel scroll, each leaf is made up of a primary cut and a back cut. Background is usually matted with a punch or liner in bas-relief work and cut away with a graver in medium or high relief work. The engraved scroll or figures are the foreground as contrasted with the background. The center photo shows background treated with parallel lines on a shotgun engraved at the Franz Sodia factory in Austria.
The photo on the right shows work in progress of scrollwork on a Browning shotgun. The black arrow points to the untreated background and the white arrow points to background cut away and textured. Backgrounding is one of three basic tasks in the engraving of ornamental designs.

Browning A5 16 gauge serial number date guide Posted: Sun Jun 09, 4: Fri May 18, South Dakota Hi Ronyahski, Thanks for your response and question.
May 20, · A common mistake I have seen in many, many, gun shops and online sites is to assign the 12ga serial number date to a 16ga. I compiled this quick reference serial number guide for dating 16ga Browning A5s and the Auto Shot, by serial number.
The Browning design has gone through several generations, but each is recognizable as a High Power and the changes have been minor, usually limited to differences in the sights and the manual safety. The original safety is positive in operation and unlikely to be inadvertently moved to the off safe position. However, in a dedicated defensive handgun, the Cylinder and Slide Shop Inc. The slide stop and magazine release are easily reached and manipulated.
Most High Power pistols feature a magazine disconnect that prevents the pistol from firing if the magazine is not in place. The High Power is smaller and lighter than the With the greatest respect for the and its speed into action, if there is a handgun faster to an accurate first shot than the , it is the Browning High Power. However, while the intrinsic accuracy of the High Power is often very good, the practical accuracy is limited by sometimes heavy trigger actions. Over the years, the RCBS trigger pull gauge has measured High Power triggers in a range that varies between five and eleven pounds.
It is a shame that the heavy trigger action limits accuracy potential in many variants, but then the piece was made for short range combat. Practiced marksmen will make good hits in spite of the trigger action as long as the trigger is consistent. Most holster companies have a Browning High Power holster in their catalog.
Another advantage of the High Power is speed of loading.

Browning Shotguns The moniker of Browning shotguns belongs to two distinct lines of firearms: John Moses Browning’s two classic repeating shotguns, the Model lever action shotgun and the Model pump action shotgun, were years ahead of their time. Browning also designed the Browning Auto 5, a revolution in semi-automatic shotguns. The modern-day Browning company produces a number of shotguns that maintain the Browning namesake for ease of use and reliability.
Using barrel codes (such as those listed above) to date the manufacture are reliable on Remington rifles, as the company rarely changed barrels on a customer’s rifle. Using these barrel codes to date a shotgun is somewhat unreliable, as shotgun barrels are often interchanged at random.
The son of a talented gunsmith, John Browning began experimenting with his own gun designs as a young man. When he was 24 years old, he received his first patent, for a rifle that Winchester manufactured as its Single Shot Model Browning could and did, but his efforts convinced him that a pump-action mechanism would work better, and he patented his first pump model shotgun in Lever and pump actions allowed the operator to fire a round, operate the lever or pump to quickly eject the spent shell, insert a new cartridge, and then fire again in seconds.
By the late s, Browning had perfected the manual repeating weapon; to make guns that fired any faster, he would somehow have to eliminate the need for slow human beings to actually work the mechanisms. But what force could replace that of the operator moving a lever or pump? Browning discovered the answer during a local shooting competition when he noticed that reeds between a man firing and his target were violently blown aside by gases escaping from the gun muzzle.

Posted on May 26, by bcbuck Buck, I tried it this weekend and I must agree that your method of measuring length of pull is the best. I tried an old Remington Model 11 and it actually felt too short. Imagine my surprise when its pull measured 14 inches. The gun I love the most is a Browning Superposed made in It has a very small wrist and a sweeping pistol grip.
It too measures 14 inches but it seems to fit me most naturally.
